The Museum of Local History and Folklore is also located in the Kurmainzer Amtshof. This building dates back to the 14th century. In an historic ambience, much can be learned about the development of Heppenheim, from early settlement to the end of the 20th century. The focus of the presentation is on the importance of Starkenburg Castle, life in Germany during the time of the Wilhelminian Empire, National Socialism, post-war years, economic miracle and social changes as a consequence of the student movement in 1968. There is also a focus on local history. Regular special exhibitions on various topics complete the offered services.

Also in the historic district courtyard are the East German culture and home parlors with the Schönbacher Stube, which opened in 1986. In the permanent exhibition, interested visitors will find customs, Egerland and Transylvanian costumes, textiles, coats of arms, glasses, dishes and musical instruments. The Martin Buber House was built in 1868/69. The Jewish religious philosopher Martin Buber lived here with his family from 1916 until his emigration to Palestine in 1938. In 1976 the house was entered in the Hessian Monument Book “as a cultural monument due to its historical importance as the residence of the scholar Martin Buber” and thus remained for posterity receive. The Martin Buber House has been the seat of the International Council of Christians and Jews (ICCJ) since 1979. Public events provide a forum for interfaith dialogue. The house also houses the exhibition "Martin Buber - Life and Work" and a bibliotkek.

The Sparkasse Starkenburg was founded in 1830 as a "lending cash desk in the district of Heppenheim". In the museum at Laudenbacher Tor, the history of the Sparkasse Starkenburg's founding and the development of the Sparkasse in general from the beginnings in the 19th century to the present day is presented. The pre-coin payment department gives selected exhibits an insight into how money is made. Historical devices illustrate the change in banking technology from the first booking machines to modern banking.

When he died in 2013, he bequeathed his fire department museum to the chamberlains of the Heppenheim-Mitte volunteer fire department.The unique collector's items are exhibited in the new volunteer fire department museum. An abundance of fire helmets, breathing masks, medals, figures, photos and many memorabilia make Rudolf Kohl an unforgettable citizen of Heppenheim.
